Pull Me Closer Book 1 Suits in Pursuit edition by Lauren H Kelley Literature Fiction eBooks
I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I honestly didn't expect such solid storytelling, as it has sadly become the case, that IR novels don't offer much of that these days. The characters were strong, the plot was solid and grammatical errors were few. It's it clearly evident that Lauren has a gift for weaving a captivating tell that keeps you reading until the last chapter (or in my case into her next book in this series). I purchased the book on the strength of the reviews left prior to my own. These reviewers did an excellent job of assessing the content. My review is written solely to express my delight in this book.Characters:
Axel (not the best name ever) and Kerrigan were well written characters. I thought both were consistent throughout the book. I was a little perplexed by Kerrigan however. Not so much because of what reviewer Books Rock said but mainly because I just didn't find any reason for her neurosis. Her insecurities almost weighed down the story. I get that Axel was successful, rich and handsome but evidently so was she. There's no drama in her background and no real scars from her dating history. It just seemed a bit too manufactured. Simply adding a dramatic wild card to her story might have helped me understand her feelings of inadequacy better. I sort of dug the "innocence" angle, as it helps to add strength to her insecurity so I think it was kind of needed.
Not much to say about Axel he's the quintessential IR hero. There's nothing new in him, but he's well written and much less distracting than Kerrigan. The supporting characters played into the story well. Ashley was well-developed and the more secondary roles were written well. Glad to see Ash is getting her own novel. Hoping that Lauren doesn't go the brother Ryker angle. Too obvious, too easy and too overdone!
Plot:
Nothing new here. Rich white CEO falls in love with black gorgeous employee (who somehow just doesn't know how heart-stoppingly beautiful she is) who after one meeting, will do whatever he has to, to get her. Not to sound negative or sarcastic. I really don't think this overused plot detracts from the story at all. It's actually sort of comfortable... like the well worn t-shirt you like to lounge in around the house. Lauren's talent proves she doesn't have to reinvent the shell to put together a good story.
The drawn out wooing narrative was such a welcomed sight! I have grown exhaustingly overwhelmed by stories that have characters in bed after the second page. It took the whole book and honestly I don't feel cheated. More books should rely on the pursuit like Lauren brilliantly does. The building of tension is much better than the immediate gratification (without much work or payoff) that many other IR books shoot for. I won't speak on the end game of this relationship because Lauen's second book tackles that.
Summary:
Great book from a pretty talented author. I finished this one and read the second one right after. I'll probably return for Ashley's story as well. It's a bummer that its not out until 2014. I'm not ready to put Lauren up there with the top IR writers but she could easily compete with and out-write most of the new ones! This book is totally worth the purchase (but maybe not the $5.99 I paid for it, seems like too much for a kindle book). Yet if you decide to purchase, it will be worth it!
If you purchase it, make sure to review it. These authors work really hard to give us great books to read, the least we can do is review once we are done.
Happy reading!!!

Pull Me Closer Book 1 Suits in Pursuit edition by Lauren H Kelley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book was a great read and I loved every minute. I started reading it on a friends ereader and I couldn't put it down and I rushed to buy my own. It kept me reading to the end and I had to get the second book too. I really liked how naturally the relationship between Axel and Kerigan developed. I was rooting for them to work things out. I was expecting hot love scenes and by the end of this book, and definitely in the second book, OMG did the author deliver. The romance between them was intense and all I can say is WOW. I can't wait for what else Lauren has planned. The third book looks great too.
This is such a sweet sexy romance story. This story has so much sizzle that you almost forget that you're reading and not watching it play out on tv.I love the fact the h/h both are strong and vulnerable at the same time. The writer captures what old-fashioned love is right off the bat. Very enjoyable and sexy, funny and worth your time.
I enjoyed the story very much. Even though the heroine annoyed me to no end at times. I felt her fear of relationships was a bit too much considering the fact that I don't think anything life-defining happened to he to explain her fears. Anyway, this was a good story and I'll be getting around to the next installment soon.
I couldn't finish this book. This book is ssssoooooooo drawn out it became boring. The back and forth with Kerrigan not wanting to admit her feelings became old especially when I was within 73% of the book...Idk, maybe it became better at the end. )
Loved this book, I just hate how timid and weepy Kerrigan is. I understood her hesitation because of her inexperience, but jeeze, she is a freaking cry baby. I will love her character to just cease with the crying over everything and chill with timidity. She is beautiful, smart, well educated and has a humbling attitude, there's no need for her to cry so. Otherwise, awesome read and worth my hard-earned money. I only rated the book a four because of the crying Kerrigan did way too often. I will purchase book 2!
Where do I start, even though Kerrigan is a virgin she is kind of ridiculous. She is the most insecure, immature girl I have ever read about. No real woman whether she is a virgin or not would be as silly as this girl. I had to stop reading the book to write a review that's how Fed up I was. The book goes at a snails crawl, and at times I forgot I was reading an erotic adult book .
I at times thought I was reading a high school romance book, instead of reading for mature adults. Sorry this book just didn't do it for me.
I found the heroine unbelievable. To say she was naive and childish is putting it mildly. I don't know of any woman, black or white, who would doubt herself this much unless she was in deep psychotherapy. In order to be this "doubtful" in her life, something must have happened to trigger it, but the author states that she had a few bad relationships that did not lead to sex. What??? All of us have had relationships that we considered bad and it didn't end in sex. We didn't suffer from them, we just moved on. In other words, we grew up! I don't know of any man, black or white, that would put up with this obviously troubled woman, especially a man with loads of money. They would consider her to have too much "baggage" and move on to the next pursuit. I know the author was trying to portray a nice romantic tale, but it has to be believable to the reader. Otherwise, it becomes a big disappointment. Story dragged on too long (boring) and should have been shortened.
